Who doesn’t love coffee shops?
The hipster atmosphere, the opportunity to leave the house just to hang out somewhere that makes you feel at home and pay $5 for something you can make at home, it makes perfect sense!
All jokes aside we really do love coffee shops here at Bomfy B. and they’re where we get some of our best work done. Sometimes the goal really is just to find somewhere you can hang out or work that gets you out of the house, and that’s not a bad thing.
But sometimes it can be difficult to find the right shop that meets all your basic needs. That’s why we created our guide to finding the perfect coffee shop depending on your goals!

Scenario 1: I’m Just Looking for a Good Cup of Coffee
This coffee shop is all about practicality. Sometimes you’re just looking to get a good cup of coffee that’s convenient and for a reasonable price. You don’t always need to be served a six dollar late from a guy with a beanie and a mustache and that’s ok! This is when you’re drive-throughs, coffee chains, and local hole in the walls can come in handy.
Typically they don’t rely heavily on just their fancy drinks and atmosphere so their black coffee is actually decent. Furthermore, you don’t have to wait in line for 20 minutes just to place an order, or you can even order through an app. These shops are for the purists or those who are just in a hurry.
Scenario 2: The Hangout Spot
I personally think this is what most of you are going for about 90% of the time. It’s not about the coffee, it’s not about the practicality, it’s about the vibe…...and maybe the avocado toast ;)
This type of coffee shop is best exemplified by spot like Better Buzz here in San Diego. The music is too loud to study, there are not very many outlets to charge your laptop or phone, and their prices are expensive!
But….the music is loud, the place looks awesome on the inside, and the cups say “Life’s Better Buzzed” which makes you feel super cool when you post about it on Instagram.
The main point with this scenario is to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into when you choose to go to a local hot spot like Better Buzz. They’re awesome spots that I love going to for fun, but you’re not going to be stoked when you go there to get work done.
Scenario 3: The Bunker
Since we’re getting into the topic of study sessions, I’ve gotta give Bomfy B. a quick shoutout. Whether you’re about to pull an all-nighter or its just really cold in your dorm room, grab yourself Bomfy to make sure you stay nice and cozy :)
To be honest this is my favorite type of coffee shop. These are the shops that are really great for “bunkering down”. They have fast wifi, they aren’t too crowded, and there’s plenty of comfortable seating with accessible outlets to charge up.
A lot of the time this might be your Starbucks or Coffee Bean, but most towns also have a few cool spots like Lestat’s Coffee House. This place almost feels like it was built for getting work done. It’s open 24/7, there is a full kitchen that serves food, and the place is filled with quiet people reading or on their computers.
At the end of the day if you’re a coffee fiend like me I recommend you have one shop for each of these each of these scenarios on your list for any occasion and don’t forget to consider a few other things like distance, parking, and how busy they are before you go there!
